| Barrett
Zinn has been noodling around on musical instruments for quite a
while now. A father and husband, singer, guitarist, music educator,
and mensch, his journey as an artist began at age 14 when he picked
up a long-neglected nylon string guitar in his Upper West Side apartment.
Under the influence of a certain wrongly-defamed herbal remedy,
the first thing he tried to play was Jerry Garcia’s lead guitar
on the intro to “Dark Star.”
Music was in his blood. His dad played the piano and crooned, a
big fan of Porter, Gershwin, and their ilk. There are Cantors on
that side the family, and Barrett was soon penning originals, inspired
by the Dead, the Allman Brothers, CSNY, Yes, Hot Tuna, Queen, and
so many other great, great bands of the 70’s.
After college, Barrett took a long break from music. He met his
wife Linda in 1982, married in ’87, raised a family. He went
to work for a family business, built his own apartment in New York,
and lived well. In the late 90’s, recognizing that something
was missing, Barrett returned to writing, playing and singing, and
that’s what he does now and forever more.
